Vicki is swimming because her brother has a spinal cord injury

Vicki is taking on the Aspire Channel Swim with her friend and so far they have raised over £1,000

My friend Bex, who I am doing the Swim with, has done it before and mentioned it to me so we decided to swim 11 miles each.  I’m not a massive fan of exercise or swimming but I decided to give it a go.   I have the added motivation of wanting to do well for my brother, who sustained a spinal cord injury in May when he was involved in a serious motorbike accident.  He was left paralysed from the chest down and five months later is still in ICU. He will soon be going into rehab, but he has a very long road ahead of him.

I haven’t done any fundraising before, but I’ve been very successful sending messages to family and friends through WhatsApp and Facebook and through passing the sponsorship forms around mine and my husband’s place of work.  I’ve also had help from my dad

who has sent messages to all of his friends and friends of our family who know my brother.

I cannot change the situation my brother has been left in, however by completing the swim I can raise money for people in a similar situation and help them live as independently as possible
