Simon swims to help strengthen his back
Simon is one of our top fundraisers for the 2nd time. In 2016 he raised over £1,000 and this year has raised over £1,200
I first did the Aspire Channel Swim in 2016 after seeing it advertised at my local swimming pool. I decided to take it on again this year after I found out it was the 20th anniversary swim.
I have swum for many years as I had a slipped disc 30 years ago and was advised to swim to help strengthen my back. I swim 3 or 4 times a week because it helps keep me fit. This year we were in Portugal for November so I have swum a lot of the challenge at the complex we are staying at and the municipal 50m pool at Quarteira in the Algarve.
The majority of my fundraising both years was donated by myself and my wife, as well as sponsorship from friends, family and golfing contacts who we mainly contacted via email and personal contact.
I am pleased to be raising money for Aspire because, although I don’t know anyone who has a spinal cord injury, it can happen to anyone at any time and I would hope to find help if it happened to me.
