Kerry is swimming because she broke her back
Kerry is one of this year's top fundraisers, raising £1,635
I took on the Challenge because I knew someone who did it a couple of years ago and, as I can’t run, I thought that this would suit me well. Before taking on the Swim, I would go swimming a couple of times a month, but I have definitely got better at swimming and I’ve also lost a stone.
I could not believe the support I got from my friends, family and colleagues and that I am in the top ten fundraisers. 98% of my donations I got by posting on Facebook. Every time I went swimming I updated my Facebook and people know that I was swimming on Friday evenings (instead of going out) and that I got up very early to go before work. By asking people to sponsor me 20p a mile (just £4.40 total) I was able to get lots of people to sponsor me that wouldn’t normally bother (because they don’t think it is enough money), but it worked.
I wanted to help those not so fortunate as myself. It could very easily have been me who was paralysed when I broke my own back. I am very honoured to be in a position to swim to help raise funds for a small charity.
