Glyn's 10 year anniversary Channel Swim

I decided to take on the Aspire Channel Swim for the fifth time this year as I’ve always wanted to challenge myself to swim 60 miles, ever since way back in 2009 when Aspire gave me the inspiration to sort out my back pain and get back in the pool.

My goals have been to increase my fitness, ease my back pain and beat those youngsters!  I usually swim twice a week, but I’ve done up to three sessions a week this year.  The swimming has been good but it was particularly challenging when I was unable to swim during weeks two and six due to my back.  But my swimming technique is better now than ten years ago, which says it all!

I haven’t seen anyone else taking part at my pool, but I do bore anyone who asks “why are you swimming so many lengths?" and when talking to people I always comment on Aspire and the admirable work it does with the swimming challenges.

I get a good deal of pride from raising money to support people with spinal cord injuries.

Swimming has helped my personal wellbeing and fitness. To achieve 60 miles in 12 weeks would have been just a dream ten years ago. I’d like to thank Aspire for the challenge and the subsequent kick up the back side to get in the pool and do it!

Right now I have two weeks to go and the 60 mile challenge is on!   Perhaps I’ll aim for 70 miles next year…
